Sacred Ground Landscape Design is a custom design and installation business based in Viroqua, WI. We specialize in creating residential landscapes and outdoor living spaces filled with four-season interest, where you and your family can be surrounded with the beauty, comfort and inspiration of Nature all year long. Shade trees, ornamental trees, evergreens, flowering shrubs, perennials, groundcovers and grasses combine with paver or flagstone patios, decks, retaining walls, terraces, stone steps or walkways to grace and protect your home, as well as provide the structural support your property and your lifestyle require. Custom aesthetic design and attention to detail join with careful and respectful construction to make your landscape installation a positive, low-impact experience, and your finished landscape a stunning transformation. Whether you spend the next 30 years watching your personal landscape mature, or need to reap the financial benefits of selling your home with a professionally designed established landscape, you’ll find the investment you’ve made to be worth every dollar.

We are all of Nature. The Earth is our mother. We are brothers and sisters to the trees, shrubs, and flowers, the insects, birds and mammals. The rocks and soil support us, the rains nourish us, father sun enlivens us. We respirate with the trees. The same elements that give us form served to create these beings first. Our evolution emerged from and depends upon this green planet, and the more deeply we choose to honor that truth by showing reverence for and engaging with Nature, as both Source and family, the more fulfilled and enriched we will be in all of our relations.

The Owner/Designer

Rebecca Wainscott began Sacred Ground as a business in Minneapolis in 1990 and moved to Viroqua in 1994. She holds an AAS in Ornamental Horticulture but also learned much from her grandfather who owned a nursery and landscaped her childhood home in northern Illinois. She also spent countless hours as a child exploring the hundred acres of woods and wetlands her family owned. Her relationships with these landscapes, both native and human-assisted, combined with a natural artistic talent to support her choice of work as landscape designer. She feels extremely fortunate to be able to do her art as her work, especially within the beautiful sacred landscape of the Driftless Region.

"I've been blessed to be able to do my art as my work. To use plants and rocks as my medium, to take Nature in all her forms and textures and colors and make a garden happen, knowing I've had a hand in creating an opportunity for people to enter into a more direct relationship with the natural world... this is a profound gift and an honor to share with others. Whenever beauty is created, we are all nourished."
